Mr. Kohring was so excited to rejoin the staff at Rolesville Middle School for the 2022-2023 school year. He was the band teacher at Rolesville High School from 2017-2022 and before that he was the band teacher at Rolesville Middle School starting in the 2013-2014 school year. He enjoys the challenges and benefits of teaching middle school students and the joys of watching young musicians grow into successful young musicians! Mr. Kohring was born in Houston, Texas and went to Space Center Intermediate School where he learned to play tuba under the lead band teacher Mr. Greg Dick who took the band to play at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention his 7th grade year. Mr. Kohring then moved to Raleigh, NC his 9th grade year (3 days before Hurricane Fran hit!) and was in the Leesville Road High School band under the direction of Mr. David S. Albert who took the band to perform in the North Carolina Music Educators Association Convention his 10th grade year. He performed in various community groups including the inaugural Triangle Youth Brass Band, the Triangle Youth Symphony, and the Triangle Youth Philharmonic. Mr. Kohring received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he also studied conducting with Mr. Tonu Kalam and Dr. Michael Votta who took the UNC Wind Ensemble to perform at the College Band Directors National Association his senior year. He then completed a Master’s in Arts in Teaching from the UNC-CH School of Education. Mr. Kohring has also been on the faculty of Rogers-Herr, Wakefield, North Garner and Rolesville Middle Schools. He has been the conductor of the Triangle Youth Orchestra since Fall 2008. He can be seen from time to time playing with various community ensembles as a tuba player. Mr. Kohring is a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, the North Carolina Bandmasters Association, and the North Carolina Music Educators Association.
